UnitBasse for iPad Support
How can we help?
Getting started
- To tune, the iPad's built-in microphone is enough.
- To play through the amp, plug your bass in with an audio adapter that has an instrument input: a USB interface or a jack adapter.
- Always plug in headphones before turning the amp on: without them, the sound comes out of the iPad speaker and back into the microphone — that's feedback.
System requirements
- iPad running iPadOS 16.4 or later
- Built-in microphone, or an audio adapter to plug in your bass
- Headphones for the amp
UnitBasse collects no data, needs no account and works offline. The microphone is only used for real-time sound processing: nothing is recorded or sent.
Frequently asked questions
The app doesn't hear my bass
Make sure UnitBasse can use the microphone: iPad Settings › UnitBasse › Microphone. If you use an audio adapter, unplug it and plug it back in, and check your bass volume.
Why does the amp pause while I tune?
The tuner and the amp use the same audio input, so they can't run at the same time. The amp pauses when you open the Tuner and starts again by itself when you leave.
I hear a howl when I turn the amp on
That's feedback: the amp sound comes out of the iPad speaker and back into the microphone. Plug in headphones before turning the amp on.
How do I change the app language?
UnitBasse follows your iPad's language. To change it for the app only: iPad Settings › UnitBasse › Language. UnitBasse is available in 14 languages.
How do I switch to left-handed mode?
Tap the gear at the top right, then turn on Left-handed mode. The fretboard and strings are mirrored, triads and arpeggios included. Text and fretboard size are in the same place.
How do I change the fretboard colors?
In settings (gear), Appearance tab: one color per harmonic role, with presets, including one for color blindness.
How do I switch to light mode?
Tap the gear at the top right, Appearance tab: choose Dark, Light or System (the app then follows your iPad). The amp, pedals, fretboard and tuner stay dark, as on stage.
The screen goes to sleep while I play
The Prevent sleep option is on by default in settings: the screen stays on while the app is open.
How is it different from UnitBasse for Mac?
Scales, tuner and metronome are also on Mac. The iPad has an amp with 8 models, 5 cabinets and 7 effects; the Mac adds the full 22-effect pedalboard, the ability to load your own Audio Units plugins (not included), sound presets and audio device selection. The two apps are sold separately.
