UnitBasse in a few words
Learn a new scale. Tune up. Practice with different amp tones. To do all that, bass players typically open 4 or 5 different apps — often ugly, sometimes limited, never specifically designed for bass. UnitBasse brings every bass practice tool together in a single native macOS application : 69 interactive scales with full fretboard, auto-calculated fingerings and complete theory, a precise chromatic tuner, an amp with 8 characterful models and cabinets, a pedalboard with 22 effects, plus direct access to Audio Unit plugins installed on your Mac. The app is fully accessible via VoiceOver in all 14 languages — a unique differentiator on the Mac audio app market.

Ready-to-publish press release
UnitBasse Launches: The Mac Bass Practice App — Accessible to All, in 14 Languages
Saint-Denis, France — June 1, 2026 — 20 fois l'ours today announces the release of UnitBasse, a native macOS application dedicated to bass practice. Visualize scales, tune up, practice with different amp tones and effects : everything in a single app designed for bass players. Available now on the Mac App Store at the launch price of $14.99 through June 7 (then $19.99).
An app for practice, not for production
UnitBasse is not a studio. To record their music, bass players already have GarageBand or Logic Pro. UnitBasse fills a different need : the daily practice tool that lets you work on scales, tune up quickly, and play with inspiring sounds — without configuration, without subscriptions, without overkill.
Filling a gap in the Mac music software market
While guitarists enjoy a wide selection of Mac apps tailored to their instrument, bass players have been historically underserved on the platform. Most existing tools are mobile apps, web wrappers, or guitar-centric solutions adapted to bass without much care. UnitBasse offers an alternative designed specifically for bass, end to end.
Four modules in a single app
The Scales module displays an interactive fretboard up to the 20th fret with automatic fingering calculation. It covers 69 scales — pentatonics, major modes, harmonic and melodic minor modes, blues scales, bebop, exotic scales (Japanese, Arabic, Persian, Indian, Balinese) and symmetrical scales. Each scale is documented : description, usage tips, related chords, musical styles.
The chromatic tuner detects frequency through NSDF algorithm, accurate to the cent, with adjustable A4 reference from 430 to 450 Hz to accommodate orchestral practice.
The Amp module offers eight characterful amplifier modelings — Thunder, Velvet, Granite, Crystal, Tempest, Mirage, Eclipse, Obsidian — each inspired by the amps that shaped the sound of modern bass. Five cabinets complete the palette : 4×10 Tight, 1×15 Round, 8×10 Stadium, 1×12 Bright, DI Direct.
The pedalboard integrates 22 internal effects from Noise Gate to Reverb, plus a chain of external AU plugins to use any Audio Units plugin installed on the Mac.
Unique accessibility on the market
UnitBasse is fully accessible via VoiceOver, in all 14 languages of the app. Every module — scale fretboard, tuner, amp controls, effect pedals, metronome — is readable and operable by visually impaired and blind bass players. No other Mac audio app dedicated to a single instrument offers such complete accessibility.
An independent, local, subscription-free app
UnitBasse is developed by 20 fois l'ours, an independent French studio based in Saint-Denis. The app is fully native, written in Swift and SwiftUI for Apple Silicon and Intel. No internet connection required, no tracking, no subscription : a single purchase. The interface is translated into 14 languages (French, English, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Russian, Polish, Turkish).
Availability and pricing
UnitBasse is available today on the Mac App Store. Launch price : $14.99 from June 1 to June 7, then $19.99 starting June 8. Single purchase, free lifetime updates. System requirements : macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later.
